Runescape Ranging Guide

What is ranging?
Ranging...the art of attacking far away, now you may ask "Why would I need range?" or "0mG WTf R4nG3 15 73h 5uxx0rs!!oneoneoneone" Ranging is used in a many variety of ways, say your down to dangerous healths but still need to kill a monster? Hide behind something and shoot at it! PK'ers will love this ability, to attack before the others can get you. Ranging will be needed a lot for a few quests too so don't neglect this.
RS1 to RS2
OH by all MEANS RS1 Ranging has been improved by one of the greatest margins I've ever seen. There are plenty more bows now to use instead of longbows, different arrows, being able to run after you shoot just one, and much much more.
What I think is real funny though is that, they actually made an arrow shoot from the bow instead of a star XD.
Equipment Exclusive to the Rangers
Now even though I SAY it's exclusive doesn't mean it is. I meant it in the way that they were meant to help rangers in the best way possible. There is finally a nice array of items now for the rangers and there are more bows, arrows, misc. ranging weapons, and the newest edition... Ranging Type Armours ^.^!
Armours
There is finally an awesome array of ranging armour but most of it is for members only, sorry f2ps

Weapons
A shortbow deals less damage than a long but always will be faster than a long. Another added note is that bows in
the same "Wood" group will give the same amount of ranged bonuses. Shortbows are preferred for training and PKing while
Longbows are preferred for higher damage and range.

Arrows
Each arrow that is shown here needs a specific bow and obviously, as the higher level metal the arrows go, the
more damage they are able to do.

Bronze Arrows | Any |
Iron Arrows | Any |
Steel Arrows | Oak |
Mithril Arrows | Willow |
Adamantite Arrows | Maple |
Runite Arrows | Yew |
Training Areas
Here's the fun part of the guide! Take out your bows and attach your arrows because now I'm going to tell you
where are some of the best places to train. Now this part is specified towards Free Players but Members do so as well.
Lvl 1-20 Chickens
Now...chickens...these are an amazing source of ranging exp early on. Train at the chickens south of Falador, it's the
biggest one in the f2p worlds and possibly p2p. On the farm, stay behind the fence or behind the lake (preferred) and fire
away at the chickens, don't worry about arrows, you will be able to pick them up ^_^. Stay here till 20 or go on to cows at
15.
OPTIONAL Lvl 15-20 Cows
This is totally optional, I went with chickens but it's your choice all together. Choose your pick of either Crafting Guild
or the Cow Pen near Lumbridge. Pick them across the fence and you should be able to easy get your arrows back. Stay here
to 20 if you decided to change.
Lvl 20-35 Barbarians
Barbarian Village Bar is filled with these guys...now stay here till 30-35 because it will get extremely boring after a while
but keep at it and you'll get it soon. Cover is abundant and barbs sometimes drop clues for members and other special
things for F2P.
Lvl 35-40 Goblins
Quick Exp is what we need now and I know just a place for that! Behind the Port Sarim Jail is a plethora of goblins ready
to be cast down by arrows. You're in luck if you are alone. Now you'll be wondering why goblins? There's just so many of
them and they will give awesome exp till 40 until you get bored.
Lvl 40-55 Guards
OK you'll be spending a lot of time with guards Two places I would recommend is Edgeville's Guard House and the top
of Varrock Castle. Now if you take the Varrock Castle make sure you bring a bit of food. After an hour I was down to 2/3rds
of my health. For Edgeville, close the gates and fire from either side to a guard and keep at this till your 55.
Lvl 55-60 Jailguards
Ouch...make sure you bring a bit of food cause these guys don't play games and the Jailguard house is Multi-Combat so be
careful. We won't be spending much on these guys for two reasons. They are hard to level up on with all the people fighting
them and because they make you use food.
Lvl 60+ Lesser Demons
Ha ha the big time, other monsters won't cut it so you'll need to go to the lesser demons! Bring food, teleportation runes
and even high-alchemy runes if you can. They drop awesome stuff and there are two places you can train on them. In
the Karamja Volcano there are pillars on the lava island (branching off from the red spiders) There is a pillar on each
side so you can go between them and fire crazy. Another place is Crandor. There is a root of a plant on the top of the
summit that you can hide behind and the lessers can't get you...they may SEEM like they can get you but don't be scared,
they can't, ha ha stupid demons....
